Hello, BioHazard! This is a protection paladin application. Smile

Personal info: My name is John, I come from Greece and I am 25 years old.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I study electrical engineering at the university of Patras, Greece. I love beers, fantasy gaming (warhammer, pen n paper rpg of all sorts) and sometimes I pretend to be a traceur ( practitioner of the physical discipline of parkour). Personally I like living the game (every game, not just wow) so you might see me tossing mighty battlecries from time to time, when excitement kicks in. I aged up literally inside rpg campaign settings, so I am quite a dreamwalker. So every character I create means something huge to me, it is not just a waste of time, nor I do it for the sake of enjoyment.

I am finishing my exams this week, and I will have to cancel my vacation plans due to real life reasons. So I will be online quite often, and since there are not many things one can do outside of a guild - plus by character beliefs, Available would never oppose a member of the horde so she would not seek active pvp action - then the only reasonable outcome is that I should apply for a raiding guild. And here I am.

Character info:

The character under application is Available the Paladin. First breath, first glance into the bright new world, she knew that the light was something worth fighting and sacrificing for. She was born a protector of the weak, both sword and shield given to the noble cause of tireless help and intervention in the name of the light (I can keep like this all day, but that would make a lengthy application, so:) Available was created in 2005, vanilla wow. First name was Holychick, but wasn't as catchy. Then she went frozen while I was out there (discovering the truth) playing Backfired the dwarf hunter and Moonara the Druid. Some months ago she was revived, leveled up (Uther bless the herilooms), geared as well as she could (outside raiding, that is) and left to discover the poor reality of the Jaedenar alliance server: That we are all living dead ages.

Available is, well always available. No matter if it is a call for daily heroic, a free craft or a silly escort quest for your 12 level alt,she will be there to answer the call. She is a Jewelcrafter, but only has red epic gems at the moment. Jaedenar also hosts Moonara the druid which is a transmutation master alchemist. Generally speaking, I do not care about in game money, instead I love practicing my professions. So you should expect quite a stock of potions and epic gems to be available for free or for extremely cheap to the guild members. About in game nickname, I haven't thought about it a lot. My friends call me To Paxy Gourouni, meaning the fat pig in greek.

Available is human, female (women in full plates fighting dragons...what more to say). She was always a protection paladin, featuring a 5 - 61 - 5 specc. She is always gemmed to the teeth (name a woman that does not like the most expensive jewels). At the moment she stands at 5134 gearscore, which I know is not much, but seriously it is perhaps the highest gearscore one can achieve outside of raiding. However, I personally believe that gearscore is a cheat stat, and does not do credit to a character, as it cannot show possible gem/enchant/specc mistakes. But that's not for me to decide. A full profile of Available can be found here: eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Jaedenar&cn=Available&gn=Karakas

What previous Guilds have you been in ?
Well, big story here (mainly because I have switched many characters, many expansions and many servers).

Vanilla Wow:
Reached 60 with Backfired the hunter, joined a greek guild named Raging knights, later joined a guild of some real life friends called Needjaz. Raided everything up to AQ 40 C'Thun tries. During that period, we switched 2 servers all together.

Burning Crusade:
Did not play much, due to real life reasons. Just leveled a couple of characters. No raiding there.

Wrath of the Lich king:
With the release of Wotlk, some of my friends changed faction and server. So my hunter turned into a troll (always loved that due to Zibba the hunter's movies) and joined them. But after a while, got tired of hunter and its over 9000 abilities, so I turned to my druid. With Moonara as a moonkin, I joined a greek guild named Seven sins at first. Back in that day Seven sins were a hardcore guild with their mind set on hardmodes, and I did not have that much time. So I left Seven sins, and joined the guild Invocation. With Invocation I raided Naxxramas, Ulduar and ToGC, both 10 and 25 man mode. After that, real life kicked in again and I stopped the game for 4-5 months, as I had ongoing studies. Of course after coming back online, I was left without a guild. That's when I decided to level up my Available. When Available hit 80, she started heroic farming in a frenzy mode, reaching some fine gear levels quite soon. After that, I got an invite from some crazy Dutch people who have this friendly guild called Karakas. Up to now I am still in there, mostly for the sake of company. But Karakas is a guild of friends, rarely one will see more than 5 members online, and they speak in their language all the time, which makes it kinda akward. Plus I do have a desire to delve deeper into the game lore and history, so I thought about applying here.
Finally, I have to add that my playtime in total goes like this:
Hunter: 380ish days played.
Druid: 160ish days played.
Paladin : 47 days played.

Is there anyone here at Biohazard that you know?
Nop, but I would like to Smile

How did you learn about BioHazard ?
Ok honest time here, general chat.

Are you able to respec whenever asked for it to help specifics fights?
Available is a protector. Although I agree that a paladin can be a protector in many forms, and that the guild might ask for me to respecc, it would make me sad to watch my girl deny the sacred honor of the shieldmaiden. But alas, war shall make corpses of us all, and in front of the greatest need, Available shall make the greatest sacrifice.

Are you able to use all consumables during the encounters? (flask, foods, haste and wild magic potions)
Mommy Moonara is an alchemist. Her daughter has literally become a junkie since level 1. Consumables will not be a problem, seriously.

What's your internet connection like ?
Internet connection at home is decent for everyday wow needs, but not for raiding. But I used to work for some years in a netcafe just around the corner, and I have a free acount there. So , in case that I should be accepted, I can be online from there, so there wouldn't be any connection issues.

Do you have a mic and able to use ventrillo when requested?
Yes and yes. And yes.

Do you have a Deadly Boss Mod or BigWigs addon?
Deadly boss mods. Available is a human, she does not have the privilege of far-seeing eyes that other ancient races are entitled to. So , in the name of the greater good, she delves into the knowledge of the Ddeadly boss mod secret library of knowledge at all times.

Why are you applying to us:
If you haven't understood that yet, I am a lore freak and a role player maniac. Every opportunity for more historical knowledge and more mythical journeys is always welcome. Unfortunately, in WoW one cannot witness the marvels of the universe while playing alone. You can get to a certain point, but I want more. The only way to seek deeper secrets is via raiding, and that's the biggest reason of my application. Furthermore, since all my friends have either quit wow or changed server, I seek company, because seriously, Jaedenar is dead. A company of nice-but-drunk dutch people is nice at the moment, but I want a chat that I can understand a little more.

Post here a Screenshot from your UI:
I have found out that heavy information display and bright flashing colors break my concentration, so I only use the standard wow UI. All important abilities are keybound and I also use a couple of macros for survivability and protection, like focus taunt and instantly popping all cooldowns. Here is a screenshot:

Quite refreshnig application. I was getting bored from applications like:
What is your internet connection like? Good! I have windows XP profesional
Astonishing english knowledge from someone from Greece (no offence but southeren
nations tend to have problems with english). I just have one question: why default UI?
It looks like you know your class and that's all that matters (except DBM -they are more important).

Hello!

Very nice application. But as Max said we are currently having 5-6 active tanks so there might problems to get raid spots sometimes. U gear looks ok, enchants are okay, only thing is noticed u had some defense gems and enchant on cloak but u are well over defense cap Wink

But as i said we got alot of tanks atm and we are forcing our tanks to play alts or skip raids allready....

Hi there John, I must say like your application a lot. So I'm gonna give you a + vote, but obviously I need to whine a bit lol!

1. Your talent build is outdated. It is valid but being up-to-date with current patch trends is always good (0/53/18)

2. Some enchants could be replaced. As mentioned before you are well over defense cap. Shoulders: 30 stamina is mandatory. Chest 275: health. Titanium plating is good for 5man/block set Anub HC but as we raid ICC, stamina enchant should be the way to go. Same goes for gloves, +2% threat is neligible when you generate 6-8k TPS (go stamina). If still over def cap, cloak: 22 agility.

Hey again.

@ Elyan.

1) I was under the impression that the Paladin allready gnerates too much threat in comparison with other tanks. The build you propose is mostly oriented around damage to generate threat. Even so, 5 points in holy for 15% seal damage - which is a total of 40% of a paladin tank's dps - is somewhat equal to damage talents from retribution. I agree that the loss of seal of command is somewhat serious, but I always though the talents to get there are a waste of clicks. Plus for only 53 pts in protection I would drop reckoning, and try telling that to a paladin who has witnessed the first edition of reckoning stacks Smile But I don't like to be outdated either, so I can surely change the specc if it is required.

2) Indeed I am over the defense cap, but defense does not only make one uncrittable. Even if hitting 540, more defense adds more avoidance in all of dodge, block and parry chances. Plus, having a little bit of extra defense keeps you reassured should you change a piece of gear that would drop your defense down. Health chest? Will do! Titanium plating: Adds about 90-98 damage absorbed per block. Even in a small fight less than 1 minute one will block more than twice, which means that overall the amount absorb would go above the 18 stamina enchant. Plus bigger block value means bigger shield of righteousness damage, aka more threat. But again, obviously you know better, so stamina it will be. Same goes for the def gems. Will make them stamina by tonight Smile Plus I have one question. Why add agility to a cloak instead of defense? I am under the impression that defense adds more total avoidance than 22 agility worth of dodge. Even if I have misjudged defense that badly, why not put 225 armor instead of agility?

EDIT: Gemmed and enchanted, might sharing the 0/53/18 build plox?

Edit on edit: Tried a 0.53.18 myself. Can you correct me if It is mistaken?

They did in 3.2, now it's not as amazing as it used to be. On some pulls we're struggling for threat Smile

ToPaxyGourouni wrote:

No it isn't actually. Your current build is. 53/18 is about raid utility while threat remains on par. +3% crit to raid. -620ap debuff. +15% run speed (kiting oozes on Rotface, dealing with Sindragosa slows). +6% damage to undead is just an icing on the cake.

Besides, without at least 1 point in imp. judgements, you can't keep 6969 rotation up.

This is valid only single target-wise. Tanking multiple mobs you're losing damage/threat of consecration/hammer/holy wrath.

ToPaxyGourouni wrote:

It's not that bad, just a dungeon tanking talent Wink

Whisper me ingame for instant guild invite, people like you, who actually care about stuff, are so rare nowadays Smile

This is correct, althrough over def cap you benefit more from gemming/enchanting pure stamina. Why? Effective health. Having a safety margin, though, is a good stuff Smile

Titanium plating gives a ~40% chance of mitigrating of 110 physical damage (block rating+HS). Bosses in ICC hit like a truck. With 20k hits mitigrating 110 damage is even hard to notice. There was a funny example how health is better than avoidance:

Scenario 1: You have 40k hp. Boss hits for 20k. Your healers got silenced for 5s (bad luck on LK spirits etc). You will die within 2 boss' hits. You have 40% chance you block that damage and survive with 1500-1600hp.

Scenario 2: You have 40k hp +18 stam shield = 40200hp. Boss hits for 20k. Your healers got silenced for 5s (bad luck on LK spirits etc). You have 100% chance you will survive.

I am aware that it's quite uncommon situation, yet shows perfectly how EH is better than % chance. Also, titanium plating is useless vs magical damage, stamina isnt.

In Icecrown Citadel, tanking is all about Effective Health. It's not just idea of mine, if you have some spare time, take a look into prot pala thread compiled by me on this forums (most info taken from ElitistJerks, where best players post). Dozens of people already did hours of testing about this and that. Theres no reason to not believe them.

22 agility = ~50 armor for mitigration, some crit and AP for threat and some dodge for avoidance. It scales with blessing of kings. Of course, it's not gamebreaking and you're good to keep 16 def. Same thing for weapon enchant Smile

All in all, I'm really happy that such discussion happened! If you would like to take a stand about my reply I'm more than ready to continue it.

Sorry for wall of text, cheers!
